GEORGIAN PRESIDENT DECREES ON CREATION OF FREE INDUSTRIAL ZONE IN POTI

On 15 April, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili decreed on proclaiming Poti, a region located at the Black Sea shore, the free industrial zone and on development of the Poti port.

“There are many poor people in the country. Many of them have lost their hope. Today, we have opened the free industrial zone to remove poverty from Georgia. We commence the construction of a new port. It will be three times more powerful than the older one. Some 8mln tons of cargo goes via the old port, but 30mln tons will go through the new one,” he said.

The key focus will be maid on providing the Georgian citizens with jobs, but expatriates will also be benefited from the free industrial zone. “My key task is to provide the Georgian people with jobs, though expats will also be benefited. In Poti, we will manufacture our products for the domestic market, as well as will supply them to the markets of our neighbours. It is shameful that we cannot supply our small market with our own products. Within 50 months, at least $200mln will be invested into the Poti free industrial zone,” Saakashvili said.
