FORMULATION OF CASPIAN SEA LEGAL REGIME URGED

The final statement of the 22nd meeting of a working group in charge of drawing up the draft convention on the Caspian Sea legal regime, on Wednesday underlined the necessity of finalizing the convention as soon as possible.
The 22nd conference of the working group was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers of Caspian Sea littoral states in Tehran from April 15-16.
According to the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deputy ministers from Iran, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan led their respective delegations in the event.
The inaugural ceremony of the conference opened with a speech by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki with his deputy Mehdi Safari leading the Iranian delegation to the conference.
The heads of participating delegations, for their parts, explained stances of their respective countries on the legal regime of the Caspian Sea and different aspects of cooperation in this respect.
They assessed results of the 22nd conference as positive, underlining the need for holding constant negotiations for finalizing the aforementioned convention.
They also reached an agreement to hold the 23rd meeting of the working group in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan Republic.
