Azerbaijani Ombudsman urged the world community to give an objective political and legal assessment to ongoing violence against the Azeri people and punish the criminals, said a statement by the Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova in connection with the March 31 - the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis, addressed to international organizations.

"92 years have passed since March 1918 genocide, but it is impossible to forget these horrors committed by the Armenian nationalists, said the statement. I am calling on the authoritative international organizations to support fair position of Azerbaijan and believing that the justice will be restored, the authoritative international organizations will impose sanctions against Armenia which made a genocide as part of its national policy, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and rights of refugees and internally displaced persons will be restored and prisoners and hostages will be released. I hope that you will make enormous efforts and mobilize all your opportunities to establish peace and welfare in the Azerbaijani lands," the statement says.

In March 1918 Dashnaks headed by Stepan Shaumian seized power, committed merciless act of genocide against the Azeri people. According to a decree signed in 1998 by the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, 31 March is annually marked the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. According to the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, from March 24 to a few days on the territory of Azerbaijan 700,000 people incurred genocide., the Armenians completely destroyed 75 Shamaki, 122 Guba and 115 Zangezur villages.

The statement was sent to the UN Secretary General, Under Secretary General, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflicts, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, OSCE, Council of Europe, International and European Institute of Human Rights Commissioners, Asian Association of Human Rights Commissioners, International Peace Bureau, Universal Peace Federation, human rights commissioners of different countries, foreign embassies in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations.
