Geneva hosts next round of Caucasus security talks
Geneva will host the tenth round of international security talks on the Caucasus.
The meeting will be held in two groups on humanitarian and security issues. The groups will discuss defending refugee rights, incidents observed in the occupied territories, as well as the agreement on the nonuse of force.
Georgia is expected to raise the issue of returning refugees and security.
"We hope the Geneva talks will discuss a document prepared by the international community and at least Russia this time will not block this subject," the Georgian delegation said.
The South Ossetian side, which hopes the talks will formalize an agreement not to renew fire, will also submit proposals.
"Otherwise, we assume that the Geneva negotiations are a meeting of Georgian supporters that takes place only to implement the plans developed by the Georgian leadership," representative of the South Ossetian de facto president, Boris Chochiyev, said.
He stressed that South Ossetia hopes this round of talks will prove fruitful and its members will support the agreement not to renew fire.
The Russian side, as well as representatives of the Tskhinvali and Sukhumi regimes, will discuss the issue of obtaining assurances from Georgia not to use force. They plan to draw the attention of the parties involved to the simulated news broadcast by the Imedi television channel.
The ninth round of the talks was held Jan. 28.
