Activities within "Justice for Khojaly" campaign to be held in Georgia
Since February 2010 the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign will be carried on in Georgia, says a press release of the Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia.
Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning. Within hours, over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed and among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were disabled by shots; eight families were fully destroyed. A total of 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 children lost one of them. About 1,275 people were taken prisoner and around 150 people went missing. Eight families were completely killed.
The "Justice for Khojaly" international media campaign was announced upon the initiative of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC) General Coordinator Leyla Aliyeva on May 8, 2008. The campaign coordinator in Georgia is the Azerbaijani Cultural Center "Varlıq"("Heritage").
Presentations of the campaign will be held in the Georgian towns of Dmanisi and Marneuli on February 23 with the support of the Azerbaijani embassy and the office of the Kvemo Kartli region governor.
The main event will be held on Feb. 24 in Tbilisi. It will begin with laying flowers to the bust of nationwide leader of Azerbaijani people and sincere friend of Georgia, Heydar Aliyev in the park that bears his name, says the press release.
After that, the presentation of the campaign to collect signatures and of the official web site www.justiceforkhojaly.ge will be held in the Azerbaijani Cultural Center "Varlıq". Then Azerbaijani businessmen will meet in support of the campaign. The final event will be symphony concert in memory of victims of genocide in Khojaly. It will be perfomed by the Azerbaijani orchestra and will consist of works of Azerbaijani and Georgian composers. The concert will begin with opening remarks by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia Namiq Aliyev.
