International Gas Union (IGU), established in 1931, invited the gas producing states of Central Asia - Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, to join it. The Secretary General of the organization Torstein Indrebo made this proposal today during Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2009 conference held in Ashgabat. Turkmenistan possesses the largest reserves in Central Asia. Indrebo noted that with the development of related infrastructure, thanks to foreign investments, Turkmenistan could affect the global map of the world energy market. IGU unites enterprises and organizations of the gas industry from many countries. Key sphere are mining, transport, storage, distribution and use of gas. Every three years, under the auspices of IGU, the World Gas Congress (IGC) is conducted, which is the forum presenting the results of research, including such as the impact of energy production on the environment, the storage, transport, distribution and consumption of gas, the prospects of gas industry.
