Russia and the United States may carry out a joint analysis into missile challenges making use of radar stations in Gabala and Armavir, Russian Foreign Ministry senior official Andrey Nesterenko said.
"We believe that such information (about radar stations in Gabala and Armavir) can contribute to the joint analysis of modern missile challenges which is backbone of Russia's approach to international missile defense cooperation,” Nesterenko said at an news conference in Moscow.
Nesterenko’s statement came as a comment to U.S. deputy Secretary of Defense Alexander Vershbow’s interview with Interfax news agency who did not rule out the possibility of joint use of radar stations in Gabala and Armavir by Russia and the U.S..
Russia diplomat recalled that "Russia several years ago suggested the U.S. use the data from radar systems in Armavir and Gabala to track missile risks in a southern direction.”
Meantime, Nesterenko said "before taking military steps, the situation should be assessed impartially and agree on a sequence of actions ranging from the use of politico-diplomatic methods, as stated by presidents of Russia and the United States."
"We intend to build work with U.S. partners in this light,” he said.
