Turkmenistan agrees to join the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Countries
Turkmenistan will join the next meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Countries (PATC) in Baku in September, 2009, member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PATC Nizami Jafarov told APA.
He said they were working toward Uzbekistan’s membership to the organization now.Jafarov said non-independent Turkic countries would also be involved in PATC alongside with six Turkic-speaking states. “Tataristan, Bashkordistan, Uygur Autonomy and Chuvashiya will also be involved in the Assembly. Turkic peoples living in Iran and Georgia will also have their representatives to the organization, which will be enlarged and cover all Turkic world”.
Jafarov said PATC would hold its annual meeting and host-country’s parliament speaker would chair the meeting.
Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are PATC members now.
