CHENEY’S VISIT
|
ANNE DERSE: “CHENEY’S VISIT REAFFIRMS THE UNITED STATES COMMITMENT TO DEEPENING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH AZERBAIJAN” “Vice President Cheney’s visit reaffirms the United States commitment to deepening strategic partnership with Azerbaijan”, said US ambassador Anne Derse to Azerbaijan speaking about the US Vice President Dick Cheney’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan, as well as to the region early September, APA reports.
The ambassador described Azerbaijan and the United States as partners in ensuring regional and global security. “We are already working together in support of emerging democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan and strengthening Azerbaijan’s borders. Our partnership also includes strategic energy projects linking Azerbaijan and this region to the West. We want to work with Azerbaijan to ensure it can choose where and how to bring its resources to market, for the best interests of the Azerbaijani people and energy consumers. And the United States agrees with Azerbaijan that democracy and market reform are the keys to this nation’s long-term success”.
“Azerbaijan has been a strategic partner for the United States for more than a decade and Cheney’s visit underscores the importance of the relationship in all domains: economic and energy areas, security cooperation, and political and economic reform throughout the region”, the ambassador noted.
Ambassador Derse said the Cheney’s visit would include a stop in Tbilisi where US solidarity with the Georgian people would also be a topic of discussion. She said her country fully supported Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.Baku. Shaig Mammadov–APA
