MATTHEW BRYZA: “WE DON’T CONCERN OVER RUSSIA’S INTENTION TO PURCHASE AZERBAIJANI GAS”

“We don’t’ concern over Russia’s intention to purchase Azerbaijani gas”, Matthew Bryza, US Deputy Assistant State Secretary told APA.
He related Gasprom’s intention to buy Azerbaijani gas to two reasons: the Company can’t export the necessary volume of the gas it has to send to Europe or intend to monopolize the gas export to Europe. “Despite the Gasprom’s attempts, Azerbaijan demonstrated that it intends to extend energy security partnership with Europe. It was made clear as far back as during the Heydar Aliyev’s time when the “Contract of Century” was signed. President Ilham Aliyev expanded this policy supporting Nabucco and Turkey-Greece-Italy pipelines”. Bryza thinks that Nabucco is more useful in the transportation of the Caspian gas to the Central Europe and is profitable by 40-50 percent than Russian “Southern Flow” Project. “Nabucco and Turkey-Greece-Italy projects will be completed if not the monopoly, but the market relations demand it”.
