USA SUPPORTS AZERBAIJAN IN ENTRANCE TO WTO: U.S. DIPLOMAT

The USA is satisfied with the process of Azerbaijan’s entrance to the WTO and in future, America will support Azerbaijan in all regards, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anne E. Derse, said during the meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, on 23 June.

“Azerbaijan is a country with large economic potential and human resources. Country’s entrance to the WTO will help development of non-oil sector of Country,” Derse said.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, expressed gratitude to the U.S. for supporting Azerbaijan’s entrance to the WTO.

Azerbaijan has already held five rounds of talks with the working group. As a result of talks, a decision was made to process factual review. By the end of August, the document will be provided to the Azerbaijani side.

According to Babayev, Azerbaijan commenced replying the questions of the USA and European Union within entrance to the WTO. The responses will be submitted to the Secretariat in September. Babayev said that VI round of talks with the working group will be held by the end of the year.

According to the Minister, during the V round of the talks, bilateral agreements were signed with Oman and UAE, and bilateral talks were completed with Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Moldova and the same agreements will be signed with them in the near future.

In April-May, within Azerbaijan’s entrance to the WTO, bilateral talks were held with the countries who were interested in the spheres of trade and service. Two days ago, bilateral talks were held in Brussels with the European Union on the topic of trade and service.

According to the Minister, there are plans to, by the end of the year, hold next round of bilateral talks.

Within Azerbaijan’s entrance to the WTO, the country is continuing works on processing of a new schedule for internal agricultural subsidies, the Minister said.
