MOSCOW PROPOSES TO ADOPT RUSSIAN AS SECOND LANGUAGE IN CIS COUNTRIES

Alexei Ostrovsky, Chairman of the Russian Duma’s Committee for CIS Affairs has proposed to heads of former Soviet Republics to give an official status to Russian language, APA reports.
He noted that occurrence of two official languages of the county was not innovation formula. This is historical fact and has been occurred in Soviet period”, he said. He added that status of Russian language had been lowered to status of national minorities’ language and other countries use this language as communicative language.
“We are anxious about situation in Ukraine. The language has not an official status, irrespective of 40% population of Ukraine considers Russian as native language”, he said.
