ANDREAS HERKEL: “I AGREE WITH THOUGHTS THAT THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE LOSES REPUTATION IN AZERBAIJAN AFTER THE ONGOING PROCESS IN ARMENIA”
“During the meeting, Azerbaijani President noted that the Council of Europe had lost the reputation in Azerbaijan after the ongoing process in Armenia”. APA reports that PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andreas Herkel said these words at the press conference organized in Baku together with another co-rapporteur Eugenia Zhivkova. He expressed his agreement with the President’s words. Herkel stated that they would submit the report they had made to the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe. Touching upon the state of media in Azerbaijan, the co-rapporteurs expressed their serious anxiety over the situation regarding the “Azadlig” newspaper. They also shared their views on possible annexes and amendments to the Electoral Code and Law on “Freedom of Assembly” and hoped for positive changes in this respect.
