The report "Armed conflicts and environment", prepared by a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, MP Rafael Huseynov, will be presented to general discussions of the organization, Huseynov himself said.
In recent months, this report has been repeatedly debated in the PACE Committee on the Environment, Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs, experts on the subject were invited to participate in the debates. This report analyzes the hot points located on the territory of member countries, and in other countries around worldwide as a whole, provided complete information on the extent of environmental harm caused by military conflicts, and together with sufficient information about the legal framework in this regard, pays a large attention to the improvement of these mechanisms, Huseynov said.
During the report, Rafael Huseynov will speak in detail about the disastrous consequences of the Armenian aggression to the environment of Azerbaijan.
"War, occurring anywhere in the world, regardless of its size, any military conflict inflicts a heavy damage to the environment. Among the 47 member states of the Council of Europe, mostly Azerbaijan suffers from environmental harm inflicted by the military conflict. 247,352 hectares of forest, 152 monuments of nature and five geological sites have left on the territory of 1.7 million hectares, occupied by Armenia in 1988 - 1993. Part of this wealth was destroyed during the armed clashes, the rest was looted and destroyed by the Armenians, who well understand that sooner or later they will have to withdraw from these lands. This destructive activity continues today as well," said the MP.
He said for several years the Council of Europe, together with several international organizations, have been studying the problem of water, which will excite the mankind in the future. A big forum on this theme was held on the eve of the PACE summer session.
In the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, many lakes that have ecological value incur big anthropogenic impacts, Huseynov said.
Huseynov will also tell in detail about the harm caused to the environment of Azerbaijan by Armenia in the period of ceasefire.
"Although a ceasefire was declared between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 1994, since then, Armenia has been continuing open war against the environment of Azerbaijan in the most cruel and harsh manner without interruption. The Council of Europe has to mobilize its forces to prevent these actions that will lead to long-term environmental hazards," said MP.
