The prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Argentina were discussed.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, Hector Timerman received Azerbaijani ambassador to Argentina Mammad Ahmadzadeh, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Ambassador spoke about the political situation in Azerbaijan, dynamic economic growth, energy strategy of the country, development of other sectors of economy through the income received from oil and gas sector, as well as social welfare policy.
Ambassador said that Azerbaijan's foreign policy is aimed at ensuring national interests of the country, developing of mutual fruitful and friendly relations with all countries.
The most important issue of Azerbaijan's foreign policy is the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ahmadzadeh said. Ambassador informed Argentine minister about the Armenian occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territory. As a result, about 1 million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and internally displaced people, the destruction of monuments of Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage by the Armenians in the occupied territories.
Ambassador said that people of different ethnic and religious faith live in Azerbaijan peacefully. He also spoke about the activity of our country on the international arena, aimed at supporting intercultural dialogue. Hector Timerman expressed his satisfaction with the decision of the Azerbaijani government to open the embassy in Azerbaijan. He stressed that this fact will be the impetus for the development of relations between Argentina and Azerbaijan.
Timerman said that Argentina is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan. Minister expressed satisfaction with the process of Azerbaijan's economic development, in particular the income received from the energy sector, the development of other areas. Timerman said that Argentina has great experience in the agricultural sector. It is willing to share it with Azerbaijan.
The issues of bilateral high-level visits, development of cooperation between the two countries in legal, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, education were discussed at the meeting. The importance of public diplomacy was also emphasized.
