This country possesses huge deposits of natural gas and this led to its special interests in immediate use of energy supply resource in Caspian Sea. From Soviet Union times this country exported gas to many republics within the USSR. In the law on Turkmenistan borders it is said that this country has monopolistic right of property on 12 mile zone along the Caspian Sea coast. After the Soviet Union collapsed Turkmenistan refrains from joining any political, economic or military structures in the region. Due to political stability that became the result of cruel government of the leader of this country, Turkmenistan managed to maximally use its privileges from geographic location of this country near Islamic Republic of Iran. Turkmenistan government developed its relations with Iran notwithstanding the relations with America and Russia. Within the frames of its policy Americans wanted to prevent the expansion of Iranian – Turkmenistan relations and the latter used this as an opportunity in realizing its purposes. Turkmenistan has serious disagreements with Azerbaijan on the issue of developed oil deposits. When Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on the use of Kapaz oil deposit as a result of Turkmenistan’s protest this agreement was annulled. At the same time Iran couldn’t duly protect its legal rights when Baku agreement was signed and under the pressure of American companies Iran was deprived of the participance in the realization of this project.
