PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN IRAN WILL TAKE PLACE ON 12TH OF JUNE IN 2009
The supervisory council, the state body of the control over elections in Iran which is under the “reign” of the spiritual leader of Islamic Republic and the head of the state Ayetollah Ali Homenei approved the offer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on carrying out the next presidential election on June, 12th, 2009 on Sunday. That day will be the tenth presidential elections that will take place in the history of Iran.
According to local observers’ opinions the basic intrigue of forthcoming election campaign is the matter whether present Iranian president Mahmud Ahmadinejad will be re-elected for the next four-year-old term. Ahmadinejad who headed the government of Iran since the summer of 2005 till now has not publicly declared the intention to participate in presidential race yet. Ahmadinejad’s main rivals on elections can be Mohammad Bagir Calibaf who uses broad support of the moderate conservatives and mayor of Teheran and the ex-speaker of parliament of the sixth convocation, the leader of a reformist Party of national confidence Mehdi Kerrubi, informed RIA of News.
