The role of Mass Media in Politics grows faster in modern time. It is not surprising that Mass Media is considered IV body of state power. Mass Media is a structure that informs the society in political, economic, social and other spheres and as a result of their activity people receive information on what’s going on in their country. Taking into consideration this fact we have to mention that Mass Media and politics are related to each other very closely. To explain the mutual relations between Mass Media and Politics on October 2, 2004 “Caspian – Partnership for the Future” Public Union and Conrad Adenauer Foundation conducted joint international seminar called “Media and Politics”.

Main objectives of the seminar are – to stress and analyze main steps taken towards independent functioning of Azerbaijani Mass Media, to talk about mutual relations between Mass Media and Politics and to work out recommendations. Seminar participants – staff of “Caspian – Partnership for the Future” Public Union Rustam Mammadov, Shahin Jamalov, Leyla Mammadova, deputy head of Conrad Adenauer Foundation representation in Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Caucasus Catrine Drussner, special commissioner on Caucasus David Afrasidze, director of social-political department of Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov, chairman of League of Independent Journalists Khalid Niyazov and etc.

Director of control council of “2 DF TV” German TV channel Mrs. Bett Schneider gave her speech on the theme “Management of Mass Media: legal, economic and organizing bases”. Bett Schneider stressed that media management has special character, person working in this sphere must have special ability, and besides legal, economic knowledge he must base on public opinion.

At the end of seminar it was stated that in future when holding such events necessary ways to regulate the relations between Mass Media and State will be discussed and experience of European countries will be looked through.
