IRAN IS AGAINST TO THE IDEA OF CONSTRUCTION A PIPELINE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CASPIAN SEAIran opposed the idea of construction a pipeline in the bottom of the Caspian Sea. In particular, the deputy minister of foreign affairs of Iran Mehdi Safari declared that it can render negative influence on ecology of the Caspian Sea.
According to Safari power resources from the basin of the Caspian Sea can be transported quite easy on existing routes - through Iran and Russia that will allow keeping ecology of the region.
It is notable that construction of the pipeline on the bottom of the Caspian Sea is included into the interests of the USA and some European states. It will allow transporting hydrocarbons to Azerbaijan from the countries of Central Asia around o Iran and Russia. Caspian shore gas pipeline project of Russia of Russian shore of the Caspian is an opposition project to the Trans Caspian gas pipeline project on the bottom of the sea. The Russian project is supported by the Central Asian suppliers. Besides Safari informed that experts of five Caspian shore countries have coordinated 60-70 % of the project of the convention on legal status of Caspian Sea, and parties are interested in acceleration of this process. The deputy minister also noted it is planned to organize the third summit of the leaders of the Caspian shore states in October-November in Baku.
According to his words parties’ positions show their efforts and desire to achieve positive results. As the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran informed the decision of all problems for a short term is impossible.
“We will try that the convention on safety will be adopted at assembly of leaders of Caspian shore states in Baku “noted Safari.
Experts of Caspian shore countries will meet at a level of deputy ministers on Foreign Affairs on Thursday in Baku. The main subject of the meeting is the extension of negotiations on definition of the status of the Caspian Sea. ” The main questions of the project of the convention, as well as some other revealed questions concerning this subject matter, will be discussed at the meeting of deputy ministers on Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Iran “, - informed journalists the deputy minister of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov on Thursday.
Last summit on the status of the Caspian Sea took place last year in Teheran.
