Islamic Republic of Iran is situated in south-western part of Asia. It borders with Armenia from the north, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan from the south, from east with Afghanistan and Pakistan, for the west – with Iraq and Turkey. Its northern territories are washed by Caspian Sea, from the south it borders with Oman bay, Ormuz strait and Persian Gulf. The area of the country is 1648000 km2. Population of Iran (1998) is 68960000 people. Main ethnic groups are Persians, Azerbaijanis, Kurds and etc. Most people are Muslims.
